Extra Concert: Jazz in the Garden

Last Friday, 26th June saw the first of four scheduled summer garden concerts in the fabulous setting of the gardens at the "Heredad de Elias Ferrer" in Alcalalí by private concert organizer Palmaconcerts. John and Suzanna performed their Spanish Show at this wonderful setting and the audience were absolutely enthralled. Suzanna managed to incorporate her dancing around the gardens and the audience.

The concert was incredibly well attended and to sit in the mild evening air of this atmospheric place, with its own private chapel and bullring was a delight. Most guests were enthralled and many have already bought tickets for the upcoming events which are planned on every last Friday of July (Tango Argentino), August (Flamenco and Spanish Operetta) and September (The three tenors - revival).

However, due to the rising demand in open air concerts Palmaconcerts offers an unscheduled extra concert. A rare special musical treat particularly for jazz lovers, an evening in the company of three very wonderful musicians. John Anthony on guitar, John Shenton on a upright double bass and the amazing George Watts playing Saxophone.

These three absolutely superb guys, play great jazz. They are pure professionals and have known each other a long time, right back to the many years they were all members of the BBC-Big Band. Together they total 209 years in age! George has just celebrated his 80th birthday. "The boys" surely prove that experience is everything and music is a juvenating profession.

All three have played all over the world, backing Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis jr., Tony Bennet and Shirley Bassey to name but a few. They are never happier than when playing their great blend of jazz, all the timeless standards and favorites. The trio will be joined by the great vocalist Janette Galbraith and the four will play songs from the Broadway Shows and the motion pictures and music by Jerome Kern, Cole Porter, Gershwin... and requests of the audience. During the performance there is a bar and food available. Parking is free and ample, the access is well signposted on the night.
