Travelling the Pilgrims Route...The Camino de Santiago Yoga Style!

The second week in September brought together a group of 15 Dru Yoga enthusiasts, including 6 teachers for a weeks walk along the ancient Pilgrims route in Northern Spain. For the third consecutive year the walk was lead by experienced Camino walker and Dru Yoga teacher Trudi van Dorp, who lives in Spain. Walked by millions since the beginning of the 9th century the route offers something for everyone who wants to take time away from the hurly burly of modern life and experience the real Spain. Everyone going at their own pace with time to surrender to the peace, tranquillity and extraordinary beauty of the scenery. The group still covered around 20km a day. Stopping for breaks to eat, relax, meditate and of course take in the sights along the way. At the end of the day it’s customary to find a “Refugio” (Pilgrims Hostel) costing just a few euro’s, for the night. Over a simple pilgrim’s dinner and a well deserved glass of local wine the group shared the highlights of the day before retiring for bed. No day was complete without at least one Dru Yoga practice as yoga is a perfect tonic for reviving tired muscles at the end of a day’s walking! But it’s more than just physical postures.-
Being outside gives the opportunity to really deepen your yoga practice, surrendering to nature, and finding union with yourself and everything around you. The Camino experience offers a beautiful combination of motion and stillness, talking and silence. It’s easy to see why people return again and again. I know I’ll be back!
